This past Saturday, two of the astronauts on the International Space Station did a spacewalk. We watched the live feed, and apparently it made an impression. I sent Micah to get ready for bed, and when I went to check up on him I found this.
It’s a tether attached to his ‘spacesuit’, tethering him to the International Space Station. He’s out there floating around, making preparations to add a docking station to the ISS.
He wanted to do his journal while floating in space. I pointed out the practical problems with this, but he was determined.
And this was Max’s journal.
It’s Max as an astronaut, tethered to the ISS, radioing in to say that he has tightened the cables that need tightened. Lena is in the Space Station, and there are stars, the sun, and the moon in the background. (This is hugely detailed for Max. I am very impressed with all of the thought he put into this, especially his attempts at stars.)
Micah wanted to sleep tethered to the Space Station, floating around in space. I vetoed that, as I do not think astronauts sleep while performing space walks. Plus, he’ll never sleep that way. We compromised with sleeping bags (again, like they actually sleep in the ISS) and sleeping INSIDE the space station – or bunk beds, in our case. Micah was good with that, but he left his spacesuit (hoodie) tethered, in case there was a space emergency. For the moment, all is quiet in the ISS.
